25th Girona International Amateur Theater Festival
The FITAG (International Festival of Amateur Theatre of Girona) was inaugurated on August 26 at the Girona Municipal Theatre with the show “Ding! Dong!”, by the Figueres company La Funcional Teatre. This performance kicked off the twenty-fifth edition of the festival, which is being held from August 26 to 31 in various venues in the city under the motto “25 editions of love for theatre”. The play, an adaptation into Catalan of the classic vaudeville Le Dindon by French playwright Georges Feydeau, opened a particularly symbolic edition that commemorates the quarter century of the festival’s history.
In this edition, the FITAG presents performances by eighteen companies, including international groups from countries such as Andorra, Italy, France, Syria, Poland, Portugal, Chile, South Africa and Argentina, as well as companies from the peninsula and various Catalan and Girona formations. With this program, the festival reaffirms its commitment to amateur theater and consolidates its position as one of the benchmarks in the sector in southern Europe.
As part of the program, the festival also includes commemorative activities to celebrate its twenty-five years of history, with the participation of companies and artists who have been part of its history. In addition, the FITAG initiative in the Municipalities is maintained, which brings some shows outside Girona, in places such as Caldes de Malavella, la Cellera de Ter, Sant Gregori and Vidreres, thus expanding the territorial reach of the festival.
