Mawlana is a pamphlet that denounces dictatorial regimes that distort and control political, religious and social power. Abed, the son of the administrator of the Ibn Arabî mosque, reflects on the life paths that have been imposed on him by a traditional family and society. However, his encounter with a painter brings about a turning point in his life. Based on the conversations he has with them, Abed questions the political and religious structures of the society from which he comes. Freed from the social and political yoke, Abed dreams of crossing the limits of everything that is forbidden: dancing, singing, thinking and loving freely. By questioning traditional and conservative religious practices, he discovers the Sufi brotherhood, which preserves and transmits the teachings of the “Great Master (Mawlana)” Ibn Arabî. Thus, the Sufi brotherhoods become a form of religious activism in which Abed seeks a new path. Rejected everywhere, the only path left for him is towards an end. But what end?

The company was founded in 2018 in France around a Syrian actor in exile, Nawar Bulbul. Its aim is to defend democratic rights and freedoms and fight against all forms of religious, social and political oppression. Since then, the company has produced two shows based on individual performances, Mawlana and Egalité, with which it has toured France, where it has performed at various events, such as the Avignon Festival, and throughout Europe (Belgium, Germany, Austria, Finland, Switzerland, etc.). The director and actor of these shows is Franco-Syrian and leads an artistic project committed to free thought. The shows in Arabic are subtitled in the language of the country where they are performed or, at least, in English.
