Antigone

In Thebes, after the civil war, King Creon decrees that the deceased Eteocles receive the honor of a burial, while the body of his brother Polynices, considered a traitor, must remain unburied. Antigone, their sister, defies the order and buries Polynices, believing that divine law supersedes human law. When captured, Antigone refuses to recant her actions. Creon, determined to uphold his authority, sentences her to death despite the pleas of his son Haemon, who loves Antigone.

Antigone chooses death over compromise, triggering a tragedy: she dies by suicide, Haemon dies in despair, and Creon’s wife also takes her own life. In the end, Creon is left alone, facing the consequences of his harsh rule.
