Re/Criar - Grupo de Teatro do Grémio
Founded in 1889, the Grémio Dramático Povoense is the oldest association in Póvoa de Santa Iria and one of the oldest in Vila Franca de Xira. A historical centre of republican struggles and anti-fascist resistance, it has played a key role in local culture and civic education. Today, the group remains active with a theatre company, a theatre school and the traditional Portuguese music group Flor de Chá, in addition to managing the Fernando Augusto Cultural Space.
Re/Criar – Grupo de Teatro do Grémio, its amateur theatre group, has existed for over one hundred and thirty years under various names. Focused on the annual presentation of various productions, it values cultural expression and social commitment. Despite being an amateur group, it has obtained national recognition and awards, under the direction of two resident directors.
