Nest

Nest is a play with a poetic staging; a punk-style work that talks about breaking away from the old home and trying to find a new one. It is inspired and driven by the parallels between being trapped in time and being trapped inside oneself and one’s past experiences. “We break apart, we fly, and we land upright again. In a completely new environment, we search for a nest.” It is a performance that attempts to make visible that which we long for, without knowing what we long for.

What can be seen is a person trapped in the nest. It is not clear why they are there, but it is obvious that their life needs movement. Movement won’t come on its own, because they like to cling to how things are. Five people visit them and try various strategies to get them to take the first step and leave the nest, but the decision to leave it must come from within.

Hoosh has been making a name and a repertoire for itself for a few years now, with a constantly rotating group of enthusiastic amateur musical performers. The company creates interdisciplinary theatre: dynamic, musical, visual, and physical. They often perform their works in non-traditional locations, such as a farm, an industrial warehouse, or an abandoned church. Hoosh works from themes that are relevant to society and crafts its own texts, whether or not inspired by existing language, that embrace commitment as well as joy and humor.

The performers are musical actors, and this quality is reflected in their performance. They all have an open and engaging acting style, and virtually all scenes are performed among the audience. Spectators are never in a safe space behind a fourth wall; they are always directly involved in what happens between the performers.
