Marat-Sade

Marat-Sade takes place in 1808 and recreates the assassination of Jean-Paul Marat, fifteen years earlier, at the hands of Charlotte Corday, through the staging performed for the inmates of the Charenton asylum by the Marquis de Sade, who was also confined there during the last years of his life. Both Sade and Marat were contemporaries, so what is established in this play (a staging accompanied by singers and actors) is an imaginary debate between the two men, who were witnesses and victims of the French Revolution and who put on stage a series of ideas that transcend the simple historical fact to deal with universal themes. The verbal duel between Sade and Marat touches on subjects such as religion, the future of the revolution, or the purpose of life and death. A bloody representation of class struggle and human suffering that raises the question of whether true revolution occurs by changing society or by changing oneself.

Under the name Locos por Actuar, the Escuela del Teatro de las Esquinas launched its El Aula project in 2018 to develop more daring research and creation shows in contemporary theatre, giving its students greater visibility outside the theatre. They also work in collaboration with professionals from different disciplines within the Aragonese performing arts to get closer to the reality of the creative process.
