Agrupació teatral La Gespa
Helena and Agustí are a married couple in crisis, products of the boomer generation. Helena is an active, committed woman, well-adapted to modern times, who proposes couples therapy to her husband, as their relationship is stuck in a dead end. Agustí is a retired guy, convinced he has already achieved everything in life, and the proposal catches him off guard. Before going into the session, they meet at the Coffeeshop Mouthfeel, run by Jay, who will become the objective and analytical counterpoint to the couple’s dialogues while they share a coffee waiting for their appointment.
A thousand faces
La Gespa was founded in the mid-sixties with performances of Els Pastorets, directed by Ramon Serra, Ramon Sarquella, and Father Xavier Ferrer. In 1969, it adopted the name Agrupació Teatral del Cine Club Palamós, and a year later became the Grup Escènic Palamosí, Gespa. In its early years, the group focused on learning and entertainment. The performance of Aigües encantades in 1974 marked a shift toward a theater committed to the political reality of the era, encouraging the audience to participate in political change. With the consolidation of democracy, La Gespa expanded its repertoire to include renowned works such as Bertolt Brecht’s Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny or One of the Last Evenings of Carnival. After a period of inactivity, La Gespa returned to the stage in 2001, entering a new phase with new actors and collaborators, producing more than thirty-two plays over the past twenty-four years.
In addition to theatrical productions, La Gespa has participated in community projects such as La nit blanca and the Children’s and Youth Theater Showcase, as well as various activities like dramatized tours and collaborations in charity events. It also offers theater workshops for the local community.
With a long history and a strong commitment to local culture, La Gespa has established itself as a benchmark amateur theater company in Palamós.
